Doctor Who camerawork

 Camera shots: The Establishing shot/Wide shot at 0.52 successfully shows us the full room the old lady was in and shows us that we are in the 1960s. This shot was used to give us a perspective of what era we were in, as the furnishing and the candles are not something you would typically see in the 1980s to the 2000s. Also, this shows us the settings the others are in through the computer, with the blue and black colours showing us that it could be some sort of sci-fi show. The close-up shots from 1.10 to 1.20  establish that all the characters seem focused and determined. This emphasises the importance of what is going on, as we see close-ups of all of the characters' facial expressions. His Dark Materials: Language and Representation

  Language and close-textual analysis 1) Write an analysis of the episode - using  your notes from the screening in class .  Make specific, detailed reference to moments in the text using media terminology (e.g. media language - camera shots and movement, editing, diegetic/non-diegetic sound, mise-en-scene etc.) Camerawork, editing and sound:  To start off the episode they utilise epic non diegetic music (meaning the characters can't hear the music) to set the atmosphere for the rest of the opening scene and the rest of the episode. They also use an establishing shot of the "city in the sky" in order to hook the audience and communicate that it will have heavy fantasy themes. When ever they show us Mrs Coulter they almost always show her on a low angle shot because it makes her seem more powerful and portrays her as a strong and important villain.   1) What  key conventions  of print adverts can you find and what are the  connotations  or deeper meanings of each convention?  For each convention, write about how it communicates meaning to the audience. See the Maltesers advert above for an example of how to do this. Key conventions that you can find are: - The product image and colour scheme. The colours of the rainbow are immediately recognisable and connotes to the audience that each skittles have different flavours.  - The slogan. The phrase 'Taste the rainbow' is recognisable snice they have have built us their product and brand and lets the target audience know about how the flavours remind you of the rainbow. Rainbows have connotations to happiness so reminding the audience that the sweets taste like the rainbow indirectly claims that skittles will make you happy. - The USP (Unique Selling Point).
