Heat case study: blog tasks

It offers readers information and conversation starters and they help celebrities confess their funny secrets for the audience.
3) Now look at page 4 of the Heat Media Pack. What other content does Heat magazine offer its readers aside from celebrity news?Heat offer their readers beauty tips and hair styles for the trendy look. The fashion is inspired by street wear and sometimes by celebrities. They also offer life hacks on: food, fitness, wellbeing, travel and homes. All with a heart felt twist.

1) How are the cover lines written to make the audience want to buy the magazine?
One of them says "Is this Harry and Meghan's biggest mistake?" They use a rhetorical question which makes the audience think about the topic and makes them want to find out what they did, which will be stated later on in the magazine. Also "Posh caught out" uses Victoria Beckham's stage name which will be recognisable to the demographic age of 37 as she is a older pop star. They also use an exclamation mark which indicates the drama and gossip which would get the audience interested and keep reading.
2) What are the connotations of the Heat colour scheme on this particular front cover?
They use the colour pink a lot and pink connotes to femininity and ,stereotypically, women tend to like the colour pink. This appeals to the target audience. Also they use yellow and this helps the text stand out as it is bright and vibrant. The colour yellow has connotations to danger and importance so that indicates that the gossip is important.

They use Victoria Beckham who was apart of the spice girls so older audiences will recognize her and be interested.
They use paparazzi shots to give the illusion that its insider gossip and creates interest.
The pact shot at the bottom right creates interest as women are stereotypically depicted to like shopping
4) What differences can you find between the use of design and typography between Tatler and Heat? List at
least three differences and explain the effect on audiences.
Tatler uses more Serif to give it a more posh feeling
Heat uses more Sans to make it pop out as it is on gossip and celebrity news
Heat uses more vibrant colours to it can also stand out

Women are represented positively and negatively. Cheryl is seen positively but Victoria is seen negatively.

Heat uses celebrities to appeal to people on Low brow and this refers to working class to middle class people and Tatler uses fashion and the posh garden to appeal to high brow and this refers to upper-middle class and higher class people.
