 1) Type up any feedback from your teacher in full (you do not need to write the mark/grade if you do not wish to).

2) Look at the mark scheme document linked above. Question 1.1 asks about mise-en-scene. What do we use to remember mise-en-scene? Give one example answer from the clip too - you'll find example answers in the mark scheme.

We use CLAMPS to remember mise-en-scene and an example is the actor costume from Will as he is wearing normal clothing like a normal boy from Oxford. 

3) Question 1.2 asks about narrative features in the extract. Look at the mark scheme to pick out three possible answers for this question. 

- Location: the empty city creates its own enigma code with the mystery of what has
happened to the city and the people that lived there. This is partially resolved later in the
extract.
- Narrative theory: Propp – character types. Lyra and Will as heroes who the audience can
identify with and accompany on their exploration of this empty city. The audience are
clearly positioned to sympathise with Lyra and Will when they initially face the two other
children.
- Todorov (equilibrium): The empty city creates a sense of disequilibrium – that something
has gone wrong and needs to be repaired or at least understood by the characters.

4) Now focus on Question 2 - the 20 mark essay. Use the mark scheme to pick out one way Doctor Who reflects 1963 and one way His Dark Materials reflects 2020. 

The doctor reflects the gender roles as he seemed more powerful and had more control along with Ian he was the one who was driving the car and the one who was speaking to the doctor and this reflects that males have more say and are seen as superior in 1963 and women were mostly only there for emotional support and was seen as a helper and took on the helping role.

HDM reflects the role reversal through gender and reflects  on how teenagers are capable by themselves. All of the teenagers in the episode are seen without adult supervision and only relied on themselves and the other teens for survival. They didn't need help from experienced adults like Susan needed help from the doctor. Will was seen as a kitchen boy and was cooking insted of L    yra, Will took on the helper role. 




5) Reflect on your overall work and exam performance this year. What three things do you need to work on or revise in Media for Year 11?

Doctor Who camerawork

 Camera shots: The Establishing shot/Wide shot at 0.52 successfully shows us the full room the old lady was in and shows us that we are in the 1960s. This shot was used to give us a perspective of what era we were in, as the furnishing and the candles are not something you would typically see in the 1980s to the 2000s. Also, this shows us the settings the others are in through the computer, with the blue and black colours showing us that it could be some sort of sci-fi show. The close-up shots from 1.10 to 1.20  establish that all the characters seem focused and determined. This emphasises the importance of what is going on, as we see close-ups of all of the characters' facial expressions. This communicates the intensity of the rest of the clip and implies to us that the whole show is going to be intense.   The over-the-shoulder shot at 3.19 portrays that this idea or plan they had is taking place. Camera movement and editing.

 Camera movements: Crane shot at 1.05 to 1.10. This was used to swoop in and track the movement of the people on jet packs. This allows the audience to feel the motion of the scene and makes the movie more fun to watch as they feel more involved. The handheld shot was at 1.42 to 1.45. This was used to add more realism and tension to the scene. It also allows the scene to be more intense and adds build-up. The handheld keeps the audience on edge as they expect something to happen since the handheld adds tension. The pan shot was at 1.00 to 1.03. This was used to follow the movement of the man while he was running. This allows the audience to feel the movement. This was used to add to the pacing and add to the action.  Editing: A lot of cuts were used between 2.30 to 3.30. This was used to add to the action.
