The benefits of vertical integration are that the company has full ownership over all the processes for producing the media content. Audience Effects Theory

  1) Write a definition of a  passive  audience A passive audience is when the audience takes in and accepts all the information that is given to them. 2)  Write a definition of an  active  audience An active audience interacts with the media and chooses what it wants to believe and accept. 3) Write a definition of the  hypodermic needle  theory: A theory is that audiences are passive and ingest the information as if injected.  4) Write down a  media product  (e.g. TV show, newspaper or videogame)   for each category of Blumler and Katz's Uses and Gratifications theory and  WHY  it fits that particular audience use/gratification. Media Assessment: Learner Response 1

WWW This is a good first assessment in GCSE Media, well done! EBI Read the questions carefully! This has cost you in question 5. Also make sure you avoid repetition- each paragraph should have its own key point. Q1: 1/1 Q2: 1/1  Q3:6/12 Q4:2/2 Q5:1/6 Q6:4/8 One of my stronger questions was Q4 because I wrote connotations to the child's facial expression and to the background and I understood what the background could be showing us. One of my weaker questions was Q5 because I didn't read the question carefully and repeated already stated ideas.  Question 3: Beyoncé is wearing a red dress and the colour red in the image connotates to hot or good looking. As Beyoncé is wearing the red dress this means that she is hot because she has applied the new fragrance being advertised. The advert is taken from a low angle this implies that Beyoncé, while wearing the fragrance, is powerful. This connotes to the audience that when this fragrance is applied you will have more authority...

The oppositional reading is the idea that goes against or is the opposite of the idea that the producer intends (preferred reading) 3) How does the Harry Brown trailer position the audience to respond to the teenage characters in the film? That all or most teenagers now are thugs and are involved in crimes and gangs. 4) Why might young people reject this reading and construct an oppositional reading of the trailer? Young people may reject this and construct an oppositional reading because they may believe that not all teenagers are involved with gangs and crime. They may also know this because they are teenagers themselves. 5) Write a 150+ word analysis of the McDonald's advert using preferred, negotiated and oppositional readings. A preferred reading may be that the new Big Mac is a whole meal and th...
