Real Statement of Intent

PARA 1: WHAT IS MADE, TARGET AUDIENCE, THE SOCIAL ISSUE

PARA 2: STRUCTURE, THEORY, REPRESENTATION

PARA 3: CODES

Statement of intent:

The magazine will promote a new book titled "THE TRUTH" by a fabricated celebrity, Samuel Polo. It is targeted to people of lower classes. The front cover will have many key conventions of a magazine (Title of publication, central image, coverlines, selling lines, a colour scheme) and these will offer audience pleasures. The coverlines will have other stories that would potentially be in a gossip magazine, this will offer diversion. Also, the inside will continue the same colour scheme and will contain four additional images along side some text. It will also show that the book helps peoples problems of slacking and help people boost their productivity.

The central image will have a slight blur to make it look like a paparazzi picture. This communicates that the magazine is targeted for lower brow and class people. The colour scheme and coverlines enforce this as it is bright, fun and informal (diversion and surveillance) and the pink colour of makes them stand out. The front cover and inside will both offer the opportunity to win a prize, which makes the magazine connote more to people of lower classes. The text inside will offer personal identity and relationship as there is a small anecdote about the celebrity, this creates a bond with the celebrity as they were also a normal person like the audience. The text also will create a tone of informality as it seems casual and uses direct address. The inside also has reviews of the book from a fake celebrity ,James Key, and from a real celebrity Marcus Rashford.

The preferred reading is that anybody can change for the better, even the ethnic minority. This will further promote the book. The images also will connote to productivity and will offer diversion and some personal identity, as Samuel Polo is a apart of the BAME community. The typography is in sans serif, to avoid connotations that the magazine is meant for those of higher classes. This allows the magazines representation to be catered towards the minority and the lower classes. The small anecdote will serve surveillance and will push the audience even further to purchase the book, the anecdote will also serve personal relationship as the magazine is for those of lower classes just like Samuel Polo was.
